Mahabalipuram, The Shore Temple








The Shore Temple is located at Mahabalipuram, Chennai, India facing Bay of Bengal. This temple was built in 8th century during the reign of Pallava dynasty. This temple is classified as UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Archaeological Survey of India now maintains the temple.



Many other monuments are found near this five storeyed Hindu Temple. The pyramidal structure of the temple is 60ft high. There are three shrines in this temple. The main shrine, in the east is dedicated to Lord Shiva, along with a small shrine in the west side. The middle shrine is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
