St. Thomas Mount, Chennai

This is a hillock located in Chennai, India which is associated with St. Thomas, one of the twleve apostle of Christ. It is believed that he was martyred here. This is also known as Parangi Malai coloquially.

In 1523, the Portugeese built a church here on top of 300ft high hillock. This shrine is now given a 'NATIONAL SHRINE' status. The altar of the church is built where it is believed St. Thomas died. We can se a stone cross in this altar, which is believed to be chiselled by St. Thomas by himself.
